Unplug

2 Oct

002Hi there! How was your weekend??? Things have been pretty fabulous over here on my end.  I’ve had a pretty relaxing weekend as I worked all last weekend and just kind of felt like I needed some time to do relax and do nothing.  Do you ever feel that way???

On Friday after I taught at Charm City Yoga, I jolted off to Roland Park Country School to teach yoga to some lovely high schoolers.

One of my oldest childhood friends, Annie, teaches dance there so I usually teach them twice a year.  I love it because the girls are young and fun and eager to learn and try  new things.

007

008

I used to dance back in the day so it’s always nice to teach girls something I love who are pursuing something I did when I was their age.

The journey between who you once were,

and who you are now becoming,

is where the dance of life really takes place.

- Barbara De Angelis  .

After that, I helped M move…again.  I really detest moving.  The last time I moved- it was a less than pleasant experience hauling crap up four flights of steps.  I think my friends and family really saw an ugly side of me that day.

Here’s M in her storage space.  You don’t want to see what the inside of the place looked like.  Lol.

010

Ridiculous.

Shilpa helped too!

009

Even though M tried to boss us around, we reminded her that we were helping her so she couldn’t get too uppity with us.  Lol.

I don’t like moving because it is just a pure state of chaos. The packing, the unpacking, you don’t know where you want to put things, ugh.  I don’t like it.  Not to mention, your gross, sweating, and have a headache and backache by the end of the whole damn ordeal.  Lol

Moving on!  No pun intended!

**Something to think about**

Last night I was talking to a friend, let’s call him Mr. T, and we both were talking about work affecting you when you’re not at work.  He was telling me that people call, text, email him, when he’s away on vacation and I could only feel his pain.  I think it’s hard to really unplug sometimes.

027

Even though we physically cannot go on vacation every time we need a break (note my cell phone in the corner there) I think it’s important to take a break, step away, and relax.

So how do you unplug?

Have a tea or coffee break

001

004

Spend time with friends

004

003

Do some yoga- of course

058

Do something creative- like knitting Smile

002

Hang out with your furry buddies

012

Take a nap

Read a new book

Sip some bubbly

Go on a hike

Write in your journal

Go to a museum

Enjoy the cool fall weather!!!

As the first leaves change their colors for autumn’s big show, we welcome the cool crispness in the air.

It’s been a while

30 Aug

Since I’ve blogged- I know.  Womp, womp.

015

But life has been good!!  Hi Lisa!!

How are things with you guys?? I’d love to know.  We have had a earthquake- one in which for the 20 seconds it lasted I thought I was going to loose my life, and a hurricane- which I pretty much stayed inside and watched bad tv all day and night.

013Thanks to the higher powers of the universe, I didn’t loose power or water! But I did spend a bunch of money like all the other crazy people in a panic at the grocery store…and the wine store.  Hehehe.  I’ve been working and feeling the surges  of busyness coming on as summer comes to and end.  I am actually sitting amidst a bunch of calendars and to-do lists right now, but things are getting checked off and like I said:

Life is GOOD~ Meow

Life is GOOD!  Meowwww!

Over the last week I’ve met with these guys:

001 Ryan D.

and

003 Ryan R. (Ladies, I know he’s eye candy so don’t even start!)

They’re my guys from Inside Lacrosse Magazine!  Both named Ryan and they’re roommates!

Did you see my article??

lacrosse

So exciting!!  I met with Ryan R again to get some pics taken for their website!  Love him to death and I am so happy that I am getting to work with them.  I will let you know when things are up online.

004Yes, laxers can do crow pose Smile

I also fell in love last week.  With this:

006

Do you know what this is? BASIL ICE CREAM!  I know what you’re thinking- how can that possibly be good? But I swear to you- it is AMAZING!  Nurse Leicht and I went to Woodberry Kitchen on Friday night and as always, we were not disappointed.

007

And since I was so inquisitive about how you can even possibly make basil flavored ice cream, I got to meet the pastry chef himself!

008

Very Exciting.  If you have yet to go to Woodberry- you HAVE to go!  They’re always very packed so you make a reservation 4 weeks in advance.  I’m not joking.  If you don’t know about Woodberry- here’s some info from their website:

From Farm to Table

Woodberry Kitchen features the seasonal best from local growers and emphasizes organic meats and sustainable agriculture.  Our goal is to nourish and delight our guests with cooking grounded in the traditions of the Chesapeake region.

Did I mention the Chris and I walked away a pint of basil ice cream…for free?  I must be a special lady.

The hardest thing about saying yes to the universe is that it means accepting everything life puts in front of us…When we affirm this, we enter into a state of trust that whatever our situation is, we can work with it…We express confidence in ourselves and the universe, we also express a willingness to learn from whatever comes our way, rather than running and hiding when we do not like what we see…The first step to saying yes is realizing that in the end it is so much easier than the alternative.  Once we understand this, we can begin examining the moments when we resist what is happening and experiment with occasionally yielding instead.  It might be scary at first, and even painful at times, but if we continue to say yes to every moment through the process, we will discover the joy of being in a positive conversation with a force much bigger than ourselves. ~Madisyn Taylor

Whirlwind

19 Aug

001Hi! How was your Thursday?? Mine was super busy and I am glad tomorrow is FRIDAY!!  It was kind of a whirlwind over here- taught three classes, went to Trader Joe’s, picked up some Inside Lacrosse Magazine’s(!!!), and tried to check off the to-do’s! What are your weekend plans? I will be indulging in yoga and spending time with friends in VA.  Very exciting.

Can you believe coming up that September is almost here? I feel like the days are flying by and plans for only a few weeks from now are already in the works! But-

or you can

(source)

Maybe you should do the yoga first.  Smile

So- I picked up a few Inside Lacrosse Magazine’s today.

006

And OH MY look what’s inside!!!

007

Soooo crazy!!!  The magazine is being mailed out today and I did go into Barnes and Noble to check but it probably won’t be out for a few more days.  I’m going to be working with the magazine again next week!

I think these people approve.

003

I love my parents! And they pose for the blog, which obviously I love!

005

We’re cool aren’t we?

002

004

Lovely day in the City of Charm if you ask me.

Even when things are busy and hectic, I still think we can all find time to take a moment, stop, breath, and enjoy being alive!

To live in this single moment, this lightest breath, this softest touch, to be captured by this smallest, this briefest space of time, to be fully present, alive, consumed in this instant alone, this is truly living. ~Jill Pendley

See you tomorrow!!!!

Where I’ve been

25 Jul

Hi friends! I’ve had a little blog hiatus! Between teaching, being in Inside Lacrosse magazine, and spending time with family and friends, the blog has been missing in action.  I also am really trying to break my staying up till all hours of the night habit!  But here’s what I’ve been doing!

Begin doing what you want to do now.  We have only this moment, sparkling like a star in our hand, and melting like a snowflake.  ~Marie Ray

Sailing!! I think I’ve only been sailing once and it was amazing.  The water, sipping bubbly, good friends.  Perfect Friday night.

012  Here’s Karen taking charge.

Look at this sunset underneath the Key Bridge.  Gorgeous!

We also celebrated my mom’s birthday at Woodberry Kitchen.  If you have yet to go there- YOU MUST GO! And ask for Brian to be your server.  The only downside is that you pretty much have to make your reservation 4 weeks in advance.  Totally worth it!

Look at my lacrosse boys in their crow pose- love them!  I am so happy to be working with them and we are looking to have yoga in the magazine as an ongoing thing and I am going to contribute to their website.  Very exciting!

So clearly things have been busy! I have been working hard but still managing to have fun with family and friends.  I have a little break from teacher trainings until September which is nice and I will be at the beach with them family in 2 weeks!

I hope everyone is staying cool because if you’re like me- I can’t take the heat! I so love my air conditioning.  And yes, I teach hot yoga.  Lol

Please let me know if there’s anything specific you want to see on the blog this week.  I am hoping to post some recipes and an am yoga sequence.

Stay cool!

The Summer Day

Who made the world?

Who made the swan, and the black bear?

Who made the grasshopper?

This grasshopper I mean—

the one who has flung herself out of the grass,

the one who is eating sugar out of my hand,

who is moving her jaws back and forth instead of up and down—

Now she lifts her pale forearms and thoroughly washes her face.

Now she snaps her wings open, and floats away.

I don’t know exactly what a prayer is.

I do know how to pay attention, how to fall down

into the grass, how to kneel down in the grass,

how to be idle and blessed, how to stroll through the fields,

which is what I have been doing all day.

Tell me, what else should I have done?

Doesn’t everything die at last, and too soon?

Tell me, what is it you plan to do

with your one wild and precious life?

~Mary Oliver
