Now this picture isn’t new, but I was in last weeks issue too.  But I wanted to give a shout out for the amazing photographer Rosey Puskas-Ragontse.  I had a photo shoot with her a few years ago and they all turned out to be perfect.  Check out her website Red Rose Photography and their Facebook page here.   I mean look at some of these photos:

redrosevogueitalia

This is one of her pics featured on Vogue Italia’s website!

And check out her own self portrait here.  AMAZING isn’t it???

Needless to say, I spoke with Rosey after 50+ people liked the pic in the city paper on my own facebook page, and I’ve got you a DEAL!!

A 1 hour photo shoot for a portrait session which includes a cd with 6 edited images on location, in her studio, or within 15 miles of her home~ all for $200 which is a STEAL!  Add professionally done makeup for an extra $50 (when I had mine done it was awesome- fake lashes? Yes please.)  Contact Rosey at rosey@redrose-photography.com

I also wanted to show you guys another yoga clothing company I am working with Aaluuka clothing company. Like other yoga clothing; they specialize in taking yourself from your mat- to the street while looking stylish the whole time.  They sent me their Essential Tank and I love it!  Slim fitting but not too tight, supportive, great fabric (sweat wicking), and stays down when you practice!

Clearly I took these pics by myself but I may try to get Brad Pitt to snap some of me tomorrow (and hopefully a video!!!)  Anyways, their clothes are awesome and you can check out my page with Aaluuka clothing here.  Soon I should have some cards with the website soon to give you in person!

Day 4

19 Apr

pencilsHey there- I hope you’ve all had a great Wednesday.  I am so glad the weekend is almost here.  It’s so close I can taste it.  I am so glad you’ve all been keeping up with my challenge!  I am definitely trying to stay creative and have some fun posts for you.

I thought you’d like to know what blogs and websites I check daily that I love.

Tranquility Du Jour is Kimberly Wilson’s blog.  She is a yogini, author, yoga studio owner, eco-friendly clothing designer just to name a few of her talents.  Kimberly is amazing and she’s also mentored me.

Carrots n Cake is Tina’s blog.  Blogging is her fulltime job but she’s also a wife, pug lover, runner, cross-fit enthusiast and an author.  Tina lives in Boston and I love reading her posts because she’s real- she balances healthy eating with working out and still having fun!

Smile With Your Heart is a blog by Jenn Thiel- also a yogini, nurse, Lululemon model, snowboarder, athlete- another one who the list can go on and on about.  I love her blog because she is real.  Jenn talks about the ups and downs in life but shares her own words of wisdom and tidbits to help you live your best life even when there are rough spots.

A Beautiful Mess is a new blog fav of mine!  Elsie is a photographer, vintage shop owner, and all around amazing photographer and crafty stylish woman!  Her blog is full of inspiration- easy and simple DIY ideas.  Her blog makes me want want to redo my apartment, wardrobe, and my whole life and make it all homemade!

Rockstar Diaries- Great style, amazing pictures, young stylish family- and in D.C.!

Daily Garnish- I’m pretty sure I’ve linked to this blog before- but Emily is a vegetarian, runner, new mother, writer and healthy foods chef living in Seattle with her family.  Her son is adorable, she’s an animal lover, and her recipes are easy and healthy.  A lot of them are vegan.  She blogs about motherhood now too so if you’re a new mom you can check her out.

The Fitnessista- Gina is also a new mother, military wife, dancer, personal trainer, fitness instructor, certified raw foods chef, dog lover.  She’s another one that has a really nice balance of healthy eating and enjoying life.  Gina also posts lots of creative, heart pumping, and calorie burning strength training and cardio routines.

Living With Healthy Hunger is Dorry’s blog.  She’s a southern girl who has just relocated with her husband to NYC.  Her blog is always incredibly positive, has great pictures, healthy eating inspiration and she’s also a Lululemon educator, runner, yoga lover, bike rider, and sister among other things.  If she lived in Baltimore, we’d be friends!

If you could have a blog or website what would it be?  Especially if time was no issue.  Share with me!

Challenge- Day 1

15 Apr

I know you’ve been wondering where I’ve been.  And it was actually one of my goals to be blogging consistently three times a week and well- the clearly hasn’t been happening.  So I’ve decided to create a challenge for myself to blog every day for 30 days.  Today is day 1.

Are you having a fun weekend????  I’ve been working and in between that sleeping and playing with this guy.

After a traumatizing trip to the vet- Presley is no longer gnawing away at all of his fur…too much.  Who knew that cats needed to be wheat free too?  I’ve changed his diet and now he takes Rescue Remedy as well and it’s actually working.  The people at the pet store Bark really helped me.

I celebrated Easter dinner…and ate way too much.

015I’ve been working a ton lately, working out, yogaing, and spending time with my Brad Pitt and just like everyone else it’s hard to find balance and stay inspired to be on top of your goals.  I started creating my own art journal.  I’m typically not one for journaling-I’ve started one here and there, written a few pages, and then that’s the end of that.  So I took an empty journal, rummaged through some magazines before I tossed them into the recycling and here’s what I came up with so far.

I don’t know what it will turn into but I’ve found some websites that have art journal suggestions too that I’ve been looking at.  I like this one and this one.  I’ve also been checking out Elsie’s blog A Beautiful Mess which is full of creative and inspirational ideas.

We must walk consciously only part way toward our goal, and then leap in the dark to our success.  ~Henry David Thoreau

Happy Sunday!  See you tomorrow for Day 2!

Wednesday

29 Mar

003

Oh hi there.  How is your week?  Mine hasn’t been too eventful and the weekend is quickly approaching but that’s the way I like it.  How about you?  The weather’s been pretty nice and I just cannot believe it’s spring!  I’m already making plans for months from now and I cannot believe summer is around the corner!  That also means my big 3-0 Smile

Here’s a recipe for you:

005006

008 010

Sautee some chickpeas (garbanzo beans rinsed and drained) with olive oil.

Add onion and spinach till everything is cooked down. Add salt, pepper, garlic, to taste.

Add sprouts (I used alfalfa) and some chopped avocado into a separate bowl and then add cooked beans, onions, and spinach mix.

Top with goat cheese if you like!  All kind of random ingredients but it was pretty tasty.

I seem to have almost all of these ingredients on hand most of them time which makes throwing it all together really convenient.  I haven’t bought cheese in a few months as I’ve really tried to cut out almost all dairy and I thought starting with a little goat cheese would be a good start.

And I will be coming to Hawaii thank you very much.

These are a few pics from their going away happy hour which was at La Scala last weekend.

I’ve only been to La Scala one other time- but if you go on Sunday’s between 4 and 8pm you can get $6 wines and appetizers.  Very tasty if you’re interested.

Journey to Happiness

10 Jan

italian hurrican bottlesDo you ever have one of those days where you’re just sad and depressed and one thing after another goes wrong?  Yeah well- I had that day today.  Still sick, throats killing me and I can’t stop coughing, and I found out one of my family members is sick.  I wanted to go to zumba but I knew it would make me feel worse.  I probably just need rest but we all know how it is when you don’t feel well.  You want to be doing and feeling everything but.  So anyways, now I am sitting in my bed watching bad tv for the rest of the night.  Better already! (photo source)

The holidays are over and winters here.  Even though it sometimes feels like a relief to put the chaos behind us, we can also wonder what to do next.  It’s colder and darker.  So how can we still strive be energized and fulfilled in the midst of the drear mundane cold?  The other day I had been reading Gretchen Ruben’s website- The Happiness Project.  Ruben is the author of the book with the same name which basically outlines a year of her life and how she spent it trying to be happier. She has an amazing toolkit to help you get thinking about a lot of things and what small steps you can take to make your life easier.  Now I haven’t read her book but it’s next on my list!

A Happiness Manifesto

  • To be happy, you need to consider feeling good, feeling bad, and feeling right, in an atmosphere of growth.
  • One of the best ways to make yourself happy is to make other people happy; One of the best ways to make other people happy is to be happy yourself.
  • The days are long, but the years are short.
  • You’re not happy unless you think you’re happy.
  • Your body matters.
  • Happiness is other people.
  • Think about yourself so you can forget yourself.
  • "It is easy to be heavy: hard to be light."—G. K. Chesterton
  • What’s fun for other people may not be fun for you, and vice versa.
  • Best is good, better is best.
  • Outer order contributes to inner calm.
  • Happiness comes not from having more, not from having less, but from wanting what you have.
  • You can choose what you do, but you can’t choose what you like to do.
  • "There is no duty we so much underrate as the duty of being happy." —Robert Louis Stevenson
  • You manage what you measure.

Print this out and tape it up somewhere you can see it.

When you’re having one of those days- just make sure you take time for you.

winterGet a tea/coffee/cocktail with a friend.  Take a nap.  Watch a movie that you love.  Go on a walk.  Meditate.  Write one thing down that makes you happy or that you’re thankful for.  Try a new recipe.  Call a friend. Play with a furry friend.  Go on a hike.  Take a yoga class.  Learn how to knit.  Go to the library.  Write in your journal.  Plan a weekend trip.  Go to a museum.  Try a new restaurant.  The list can go on and on. For a long time it seemed to me that life was about to begin-real life.  But there was always some obstacle in the way, something to be gotten through first, some unfinished business, time to still be served, a debt to be paid.  At last it dawned on me that these obstacles were my life.  This perspective has helped me to see that there is no way to happiness.  Happiness is the way.  So treasure every moment you have and remember that time waits for now one…Happiness is a journey, not a destination.  ~Souza

Staying with it

6 Jan

004Hi friends!  How is your week going??  Things are going pretty well here.  But I must say- eating clean and going caffeine free is hard.  Obviously it’s only been a few days, but I haven’t had any caffeine since last Saturday and well- my energy is non existent.  When will it stop!? I hope soon.  Also, my throat is starting to hurt.  I hope it’s nothing.

Thank you for all the responses, emails, and facebook messages I got about my last post.  I just want to remind every single one of you who take the time to read my blog is that the things that I write about are solely my opinion.  I don’t know the right or wrong way for you to eat and work out.  I am merely offering my own suggestions to things that have worked and appeal to me (like green juice).

So you can eat things like this:

001004

Peppermint and ginger herbal tea with agave nectar

Oatmeal with blueberries, about 1/3 of a banana, dash of maple syrup

008

I also  made this delicious concoction- sautéed (in olive oil) broccoli, mushrooms, onion, and then added quinoa and tofu.  You don’t have to eat all raw all the time to still eat clean.  This was dinner and actually that picture is the leftover because I wasn’t that hungry.  I added a dash of spicy mustard that my friend Lauren made plus a dash of soy sauce.  You must make this!

And as for other tidbits about the new year as I see all the yoga classes and the gym being completely packed is that you can’t be too hard on yourself.  It’s all about balance.  You have to figure out your own equilibrium.  If you want to have a glass of wine- ok, have it, and don’t go overboard.  And then move on.  You need a day off from working out.  Then plan out what classes or when you will go to the gym or yoga next.  I promise that makes it easier.

"Balance is the perfect state of still water. Let that be our model. It remains quiet within and is not disturbed on the surface." Confucius

Again, you can’t connect the dots looking forward; you can only connect them looking backwards. So you have to trust that the dots will somehow connect in your future. You have to trust in something – your gut, destiny, life, karma, whatever. This approach has never let me down, and it has made all the difference in my life.  ~Steve Jobs

I hope you’re having a  great week and an amazing start to 2012!
