You can decide

27 Mar

004Hi friends- how was your weekend? I had nothing work related going on and I spent time with Brad Pitt.  April is going to be a crazy month for me work wise so it was nice to take it easy this weekend.  What about you?  Did you do anything fun?  I was originally going to see the Cherry Blossoms in DC but the weather put a damper on those plans.  ____________________________________________________________

001A few weeks ago Lululemon sent me to the Landmark Forum.  The forum is a intense weekend long seminar where you basically learn certain skills to help you create the life you want.  It has a lot to do the language that you use to help you have your own personal tool kit for living your life to the fullest.  This may seem confusing to some, eye opening to others, and really resonating to others.

005Life is what you make of it.  You can have, be, and do anything you want. When we get upset, frustrated and angry- we are deciding to be those things.  Our decisions are based on our own reasoning.

I’ve thought a lot about what I think I’m meant to do in life or my destiny if you want call it that as I’ve written about before and that I had thought there is something essentially that we are all meant to do in life- we just have to figure that out.  Figure out what our dharma is.  I guess something I realized that with that- the idea of duty and destiny- is that we are the ones who give meaning to what we do in life.

I used to complain all the time about not having enough “Camille time.”  If you talk to me often enough, I’m sure you’ve heard me talking about this.  But one thing I specifically took away from the forum is that we are each responsible for our actions.  So- me trying to blame everyone and everything on not having enough Camille time really means that I am the one in charge of how I spend my time.

Life is what you make it.

007Our lives are waves that come up out of the ocean of eternity, break upon the beach of earth, lapse back to the ocean of eternity.  Some are sunlit, some run in storm and rain; one is a quiet ripple, another is a thunderous breaker; and once in many centuries comes a great tidal wave that sweeps over a continent; but all go back to the sea and lie equally there. ~Austin O’Malley

So I had a weekend away and it was blissful.  I feel relaxed and recharged for the week ahead!

This girl kept my feet warm.

I did lots of this:

001 wine

Note- I am now obsessed with the Keurig coffee makers!  I really want one- but I’d be for sure a caffeine addict if I had one.  I also ate food that was not gluten and dairy free!  Gahhhh!  But it was good.  I didn’t take any pics though.  Next time!

010Present moment living, getting in touch with your now, is at the heart of effective living.  When you think about it, there really is no other moment you can live.  Now is all there is, and the future is just another present moment to live when it arrives. ~Wayne Dyer

And ended with this:

I hope you’re having a great start to the week!

Real Girls

7 Jan

Hi hi hi- tgif is all I have to say!  I have a busy weekend of working with the teacher trainers at Charm City Yoga this weekend so I am going to keep this short and sweet with a few bit of inspiration to lead you on your weekend.

Since it is the start of the new year and we all need motivation to help achieve what we want out of life- watch this video.  Immediately.

I know it’s a little long but you will thank me.  I saw this on a friends Facebook page so I decided to see what it was.

This video is one of many from TED.  TED is a non profit developed in 1984 which originally started as a conference bringing technology, entertainment, and design together.

From their website:

Our mission: Spreading ideas.
We believe passionately in the power of ideas to change attitudes, lives and ultimately, the world. So we’re building here a clearinghouse that offers free knowledge and inspiration from the world’s most inspired thinkers, and also a community of curious souls to engage with ideas and each other.

Clearly this video fits that exact description.  What I got from this video is that basically- we all have dreams, goals, and aspirations in life.  But by nature, we are lazy and stubborn and set in our ways.  Don’t say you’re never like that- because we all have our moments.  We have to dig deep down inside and find our activation energy.  The energy that prevents you from sleeping all day long so you can get up and go to work so you can pay your bills.  You have to make yourself do it- every damn day.

We like our routines and it’s so easy to get set in them.  In order to- for example- be able to hold a handstand- you have to make yourself do the work to make it happen.  So doing it every day, doing your chaturanga push ups, holding your plank pose, and strengthening your stomach every day.  Or else there’s no way you will be able make it up there.

So take these words of advice from the video:

  • Force yourself to get out of your head
  • Get past your feelings (because you’re never going to feel like going the extra mile to get what you want)
  • Get out of your comfort zone

And take advantage of the 5 second rule- act on your impulses because after 5 second your brain is going to take over and tell you otherwise!

What a way to start the weekend right???

Here are some other pictures that the lovely Sarah took of me for the Lululemon product notification.

This photo- bottom in the white- made it onto a very popular blog called LuluAddict.  The comments made me laugh because I don’t think the one in white is the best one of me.  If you  don’t happen to read them- there were just a lot of positive comments about seeing real bodies (I was known as the busty lady! lol) in the photos and that the average woman has curves.  Real girls have curves I tell you.  Winking smile

Goals.  There’s no telling what you can do when you get inspired by them. There’s no telling what you can do when you believe in them. There’s no telling what will happen when you act upon them.  ~Jim Rohn

I hope you all have a fantastic weekend!

Staying with it

6 Jan

004Hi friends!  How is your week going??  Things are going pretty well here.  But I must say- eating clean and going caffeine free is hard.  Obviously it’s only been a few days, but I haven’t had any caffeine since last Saturday and well- my energy is non existent.  When will it stop!? I hope soon.  Also, my throat is starting to hurt.  I hope it’s nothing.

Thank you for all the responses, emails, and facebook messages I got about my last post.  I just want to remind every single one of you who take the time to read my blog is that the things that I write about are solely my opinion.  I don’t know the right or wrong way for you to eat and work out.  I am merely offering my own suggestions to things that have worked and appeal to me (like green juice).

So you can eat things like this:

001004

Peppermint and ginger herbal tea with agave nectar

Oatmeal with blueberries, about 1/3 of a banana, dash of maple syrup

008

I also  made this delicious concoction- sautéed (in olive oil) broccoli, mushrooms, onion, and then added quinoa and tofu.  You don’t have to eat all raw all the time to still eat clean.  This was dinner and actually that picture is the leftover because I wasn’t that hungry.  I added a dash of spicy mustard that my friend Lauren made plus a dash of soy sauce.  You must make this!

And as for other tidbits about the new year as I see all the yoga classes and the gym being completely packed is that you can’t be too hard on yourself.  It’s all about balance.  You have to figure out your own equilibrium.  If you want to have a glass of wine- ok, have it, and don’t go overboard.  And then move on.  You need a day off from working out.  Then plan out what classes or when you will go to the gym or yoga next.  I promise that makes it easier.

"Balance is the perfect state of still water. Let that be our model. It remains quiet within and is not disturbed on the surface." Confucius

You should also check out my friend Sara’s blog.  She had some really nice reflections about 2011 and what’s to come in 2012.

Here are some other interesting things to read:

Healing Power of Food

How Yoga Can Wreck Your Body (we can discuss this at a later time but I’d love to know your thoughts)

Again, you can’t connect the dots looking forward; you can only connect them looking backwards. So you have to trust that the dots will somehow connect in your future. You have to trust in something – your gut, destiny, life, karma, whatever. This approach has never let me down, and it has made all the difference in my life.  ~Steve Jobs

I hope you’re having a  great week and an amazing start to 2012!

Where I’ve been

We were definitely able to catch a bunch of goodies before the frost happened.  Please check out their website so you can join their CSA in the spring.

I also watched the monument lighting in Baltimore.

I saw my twitter friends and lots of people from high school and yoga- pretty much all of Baltimore. I was sweating bullets with that scarf on when there were swarms of people but the second they left- freezing cold!

I taught yoga at Lululemon in Baltimore- and made them all take pictures with me.

I met Thais!!  We just used to be twitter buddies but she came to see me from Fredrick!  I’m hopefully going to get her to do a guest blog post for me soon- but in the meantime please read her blog.

And on top of teaching, teaching in the teacher training, and a million other things- I got ready for the holidays!

Things that weren’t documented were helping my sister move- no words can even begin to describe the rather hellacious ordeal.  Moving kind of brings out the worst in me.

And on a lighter note- I have been chosen by Baltimore Magazine as one of their Top Singles of 2012!  Very exciting and I get to be in the magazine in their February issue.   You can check out more here.

With that- I’m going to bed.  See you tomorrow!!

001Hi friends!! Are you staying cool??? Even though I teach hot yoga- I LOVE basking in the air conditioning.

So- exciting news! I am now a Lululemon Ambassador!! Yay!  This means that I will be a sort of spokesperson for their brand, teach classes in their store, and basically help spread their message of what their brand is about! They’re a great company and really want.  Below is their manifesto:

I wasn’t sure what to write about tonight as my own yoga practice has been mia because of my foot injury.  I miss my zumba class and my hips need stretching like none other.  I think I might unroll my mat tomorrow and we will see.

I didn’t know it, but today would have been my god father’s 65th birthday.  His name was Joe Surges and he was one of the most amazing people I have ever met.  When I was 21, he passed away from a brain tumor.  He was a truly loving and sincere being, and he was also HILARIOUS.  Even though I am sad today because I miss him, I can only think of the good things.  Joe used to imitate Bugs Bunny.  M and I thought it was hilarious- he would do the whole thing, Bugs, Elmer Fudd and Foghorn Leghorn.  But the second we’d laugh out loud, he’d stop the whole thing.

Joe was my mom’s best friend in college and he was almost like another father to M and I. Joe would lecture me about my grades and I would cry.  He would buy my sister the soda called Jolt (does anyone else remember this?!) and have a whole candy drawer that we could always dig in to.  Joe helped me learn how to drive.  At Christmas time, there would sleigh bells on the inside of the door to his house.  Every time we would ring them, he’d go upstairs and bring down more presents.  This went on for hours!  Nintendo, telephones, PlayStation, a keyboard, and all kinds of other ridiculousness! My mom always got frustrated that he spoiled us so much.  But at his funeral, she placed a Christmas bell in his coffin.

When M and I were in 4th grade, Joe and his family took us to Busch Gardens.  We would sing Obvious Child by Paul Simon.  I play the song and yoga and it always reminds me of Joe and my childhood.

Life is precious so enjoy every moment!!!!

When goal of life is attained, one achieves reparation of all wrongs, the healing of all wounds, the righting of all failures, the sweetening of all sufferings, the relaxation of all strivings, the harmonizing of all strife, the unraveling of all enigmas, and the real and full meaning of all life- past, present, and future. ~ Mehar Baba

We miss you Joe!!!

I don’t mean to sound sad- but I’m a little sad today.  I think it’s just so important to remember to cherish your own life because it’s already great even if you don’t think so! Life truly is amazing so cherish it!

Much love!!!!

xo, Camille
