Week recap and playlist

10 Nov nov9

kittens1

Hi my blog readers!  Did you have a good week?? I’m definitely looking forward to the weekend.  It’s been kind of a crazy week.  I took Presley to the vet this week and he is cancer free!!! Yay!  I guess he has some sort of sore on his tongue that could’ve been a tumor but the meds seem to be working and it’s going away.  I am more than relieved.  I hope he lives a long kitty life!

vote

Did you vote??  I did.  I cannot stress how important it is that we all vote. It’s huge that we have the right to choose what we want in our society and that we can stand up for what we believe in.  I waiting in a long line in the cold to get my vote on.  I felt cool when I got my sticker hehehehe.

Here are some eats:

chaiI have been enjoying chai tea lately with coconut milk.  I look coffee (the taste and the morning pick me up) but I don’t love its acidic properties.  So I’ve been switching things up.  It’s soooo good.

The salad below I’ve made before- chick peas, black beans (both drained and rinsed), cucumbers, 1 hardboiled egg, onion, olives, salt/pepper to taste, and some Greek salad dressing.  Quick and tasty.

lunch1

The next is just some basics I picked up from Trader Joe’s.  Love that place.  I could go in there everyday and pick something different.  They’ve started putting out a lot of their holiday goodies- I had to go to the other side of the store before I walked out with a lot of chocolate.

So after you give that a listen, here’s my brief tutorial on how to make your own yoga mix!

It’s not a secret that I love music.  I grew up listening to all kinds of music and I guess I have to give my parents a lot of the credit.  I just saw Peter Gabriel with them a few weeks ago.  Music is something that will always inspire me (I sang in music groups in school and in college).  Now that we are so lucky to have technology at our finger tips all the time- I use shazam anytime I hear a song that I think I may like.  I use spotify to create my own playlists so they can stream from my iphone.  Also on spotify- once you’ve started a list you can start your own radio station that is based on the songs in your playlist.  I listen to that so that I can find songs that I know I will like but maybe have never heard before.  I used to hear songs on the radio and write down the group and the title as soon as I would hear it and keep this massive list, crossing off songs as I go along.

To make my yoga play list I think about how I sequence my class- with that being said I almost  never write out pose by pose.  Actually- I never do that.  But that’s for another blog post.  So I basically envision my class- beginning/centering, vinyasa flow/standing poses, inversions, cooling down sequence.  Clearly I don’t want to play fast paced music that’s going to bring the energy up when we are moving towards savasana.  I typically don’t play music within the first 5-10 minutes which involves centering, breath work, and sometimes ab work.  I start with a slower paced song or two, build to up beat for about 40-50 minutes, and then move to slower paced and to really slow songs.  But more than anything- I pick songs that speak to me.  I play the songs that I love and they’re songs that I’d want to hear when I am practicing.

What songs speak to you? What artists, musicians, or bands do you love?

Here’s one that I love.

I hope you all had a great week and have a nice weekend ahead of you.

xoxo- C

Hiii my lovely readers.  We all know it’s been a minute- more like two weeks- since I’ve written something but well- I needed a little break.  I needed space.  We all know that feeling.

I’ve been doing a lot of thinking about life, career, goals, and all of that stuff recently and I saw this list posted on the mirror of a friends bathroom.  I just thought I’d share.

(source)

Something you can do to get yourself thinking is to draw and circle and inside of it write-what do I want?  Outside of it write all of the things that you don’t want. Give yourself 5-10 minutes and just write down what comes to mind.  You don’t have to put a lot of effort or thought into it.  Just an easy way to get your creative juices flowing and help you get closer to what it is that you really want.

Also- you can find me now on Spotify and check out my playlists.  I only have two on there currently because I have typically posted them on here.  But I have made them public and it’s FREE to download.  And of course if you have any other music recommendations I’d love them!

Don’t forget to find me on twitter and on Facebook!

Thankful Always

3 Nov

mt vernonHey hey- how is your week unfolding?  Things have been pretty good here…took the yoga, taught the yoga.  Seems good to meSmile And I’m getting a massage on Friday.  So excited!  To make it better- I have a gift card.

So I know you can’t see in this picture- but in the background on the monument- they already have the Christmas lights strung up!!!! Thanksgiving hasn’t even happened yet!  Which brings me to my next topic.

Since it’s November and Thanksgiving and the holidays are approaching- we all take time to think about what we are thankful for.  I asked around on my Facebook and twitter page what people were thankful for right now.  Too many of your talked about my yoga class! Thank you but that’s not what I was fishing for lol.

Here’s some responses:

(source)

Brittany E- possibility

Sara V- (Yoga) Teacher training

Doug P- My new lil’ Baby Girl (who looks like her daddy!!)

Joan S- supportive friends

Lisa G- My husband

Samantha M- I am thankful for choice.  No matter what, I always always always get to choose how I think about something or someone.

Lisa S- Salamanders

Megan F- hugs and avocados

Michelle K- I’m thankful for my health, daughter, and my friends

Meg E- I am thankful for my health and the opportunity to pursue my bliss! And of course love and family and friends!!

Maliha- employment!

Kameron- My sisters!!! Winking smile All of them, we balance each other Winking smile

Ok and the other crazy responses were (and I am sparing you some of the inside jokes with my college friends)

Lindsay F- The ab workouts in your class!

Kim G- For my fav yoga teacher!

CJ W- Crow pose!

Lol- you guys are ridiculous!

But anyways- I just want to point out that even when it’s not Thanksgiving, that you take time every day to find something to be thankful for!

Sadly one of my friends dad’s has passed away this week and even though he had been ill for sometime, it is still  very upsetting.  But more than that, it’s a reminded to cherish what you have, your life, and the people you love.

How easily we can forget how precious life is!
So long as we can remember, we’ve just been here, being alive.
Unlike other things for which we have a good comparison–
black to white, day to night, good to bad–
we are so immersed in life that we can see it
only in the context of itself.
We don’t see life as compared to anything,
to not-being, for example, to never having been born.
Life just is. But life itself is a gift.
It’s a compliment just being born:
to feel, breathe, think, play, dance, sing,
work, make love, for this particular lifetime.
Today, let’s give thanks for life.
For life itself. For simply being born!
~Daphne Rose Kingma

So the next time you’re having a case of the gimmies, take a step back and be happy for what’s already in front of you.

003Hey hey- how has your week been???

Some exciting news- my girl Nurse Leicht- has PASSED HER NURSING BOARDS!!! SO FREAKING EXCITING!  I cannot tell you how proud I am of her.  Yay!!!

This week kind of flew by and I have to say I’m pretty glad because I am looking forward to the weekend.  Do you have any exciting weekend plans?

Homemade kombucha has also been made this week.  Also very exciting.  Now I don’t spend on $4 a bottle or spend on buying my sparkling water!  My latest batch is cranberry flavored and it’s so good I tell you!

I’m not going to lie.  It does look kind of gross.  But when you open up the jar of fizzy goodness, it tastes so good!

So as we all know- fall is here.  It’s one of my favorite times of year. The leaves change and turn into gorgeous yellows and reds and the air is crisp and cool.  I love it.  But we all know what comes after fall- winter.  The leaves fall off the trees and everything is bear and dreadful for months!  But right now, the wind that blows the leaves around, kind of stirs us up inside.  Does anyone else feel like that?

Traditional Ayurveda says that the seasons affects our our physical bodies as well as our emotional states and you have to do certain things to balance it out.  This includes certain types of food, being in certain environments (hot/cold), taking herbal remedies, self massage  treatments and more.

I’m bringing this up because we all feel the ups and downs of our emotions.  We have a good day that turns into a bad day, the traffic is bad, we missed our work out, messed something up at work.  We’ve all been there more than we’d like to admit.  But how do we deal with it?  When I was talking to a bunch of friends we were all in agreement that you have to take care of you before you can take care of anyone else.  So why is that so hard to do? Hmmm.

I’ve really learned over the years to take care of myself.  Sometimes when all my friends are going out I stay in, I take naps, I make green juice and eat more veggies and snuggle up with this guy.

kitten

Awww kitty! A side note before I forget- I am thinking about maybe getting a group together to go to an animal rescue/sanctuary in the area.  Does anyone want to join? The Poplar Spring Farm Sanctuary offers group tours (by appointment) so let me know if you’re interested.  It’s only an hour and a half away.

In yoga we talk a lot about being grounded.  Now this is a physical thing- connecting your body to the earth- but it’s also mental.  How can you stay grounded or connected to your own body and mind when life is always full of ups and downs? You still have to have your feet on the ground even  when you’re trying to achieve your goals. That simply means being mindful and just being aware of your thoughts, words, and actions all the time- even when the wind is getting you stirred up.

So what do you do to keep yourself calm and grounded? I’d like to know Smile

I hope you all have a great weekend!!! Listen to my new favorite song by Florence + The Machine.  It’s amazing!!!

You have to take the good with the bad, smile with the sad, love what you got and remember what you had, always forgive, but never forget, learn from your mistakes, but never regret, people change, things go wrong, just remember…life goes on. ~Unknown

Holy Inspiration

25 Jun

005Hi friends! I am sorry that there was no post for a few days!  I have been busssyyyyy! But, it’s Friday and I am happy!!!  Any fun plans for the weekend?

 ________________________________________________________

Have you every had an experience that just leaves you blissful and inspired?  I have.  And it was on Wednesday night.  I had the pleasure of seeing Florence and The Machine and U2 along with 80,000 other people in Baltimore at the Ravens M and T Stadium.  My mom would blast U2 along with Sting, Enya, and classical music during my upbringing so of course it was appropriate that I went to the concert with my parents! We are also huge Beatles fans too but I will post about that some other time.

It was a gorgeous summer night.  And HOT!

While I thought I was more excited about seeing Florence and The Machine, U2 was really amazing.  The last time I saw them was almost 15 years ago.

What I found to be more inspiring was really the message that the band wants to give to all of their fans.  The want each and every one of us to remember that we have a voice and choice in life.  There were messages on the large screen that said ”What do you want?  How will you ask for it?”  Of course I thought this was great and it always makes me think.  What do I want out of my life and what are the steps I am going to take to make it all happen.  And what you sometimes think you want isn’t really what you really want.  Life’s tricky like that Smile

U2 is also known for their philanthropic work with Amnesty International, The One Campaign, Product Red, Live Nation as well as several other non-profit organizations who support social justice, equality, liberation, and well being for people all over the world.

055033  Sorry mom and dad if you don’t approve of these pictures.

052074079099101

I think a large part of their message is LOVE AND KINDNESS and to LIVE being kind and loving for the benefit of other people.  Images of Desmond Tutu (Archbishop of South Africa, human rights activist, and Nobel Peace Price Winner), Mark Kelly (Sen. Gabrielle Gifford’s astronaut husband), Aung San Suu Kyi (Burmese opposition politician and Nobel Peace Prize Winner) and Nelson Mandela (former South African President) flooded the screens on the stage as they sang songs such as Sunday Bloody Sunday, I Still Haven’t Found What I’m Looking For, and Pride(In the name of love).  Even though I know tons of U2 lyrics, I really felt like this time I understood more of their message.  As The Beatles say “All you need is love” and Bono repeated those very words on Wednesday night.

So as those messages popped up on the screen asking “What time is it? What do you want? How will you ask for it?” again it makes me think- it’s time to be a kind, loving, caring, helpful and accepting person.  As there are thousands of people struggling to simply stay alive on the other side of the world, there is no reason why we can’t aim to help them.  Or simply just smile at the person walking next to you on the street.

134 We danced a lot- this is when the heat was getting to me.  lol

So this weekend I ask you:

What time is it for you? What do you want? How will you ask for it?

Life can be amazing and wonderful all at the same time.  You just have to put it out there.

I hope you have a fabulous weekend!!!

Much love, Camille
