Week recap and playlist

10 Nov nov9

Hi my blog readers!  Did you have a good week?? I’m definitely looking forward to the weekend.  It’s been kind of a crazy week.  I took Presley to the vet this week and he is cancer free!!! Yay!  I guess he has some sort of sore on his tongue that could’ve been a tumor but the meds seem to be working and it’s going away.  I am more than relieved.  I hope he lives a long kitty life!

vote

Did you vote??  I did.  I cannot stress how important it is that we all vote. It’s huge that we have the right to choose what we want in our society and that we can stand up for what we believe in.  I waiting in a long line in the cold to get my vote on.  I felt cool when I got my sticker hehehehe.

Here are some eats:

chaiI have been enjoying chai tea lately with coconut milk.  I look coffee (the taste and the morning pick me up) but I don’t love its acidic properties.  So I’ve been switching things up.  It’s soooo good.

The salad below I’ve made before- chick peas, black beans (both drained and rinsed), cucumbers, 1 hardboiled egg, onion, olives, salt/pepper to taste, and some Greek salad dressing.  Quick and tasty.

lunch1

The next is just some basics I picked up from Trader Joe’s.  Love that place.  I could go in there everyday and pick something different.  They’ve started putting out a lot of their holiday goodies- I had to go to the other side of the store before I walked out with a lot of chocolate.

So after you give that a listen, here’s my brief tutorial on how to make your own yoga mix!

It’s not a secret that I love music.  I grew up listening to all kinds of music and I guess I have to give my parents a lot of the credit.  I just saw Peter Gabriel with them a few weeks ago.  Music is something that will always inspire me (I sang in music groups in school and in college).  Now that we are so lucky to have technology at our finger tips all the time- I use shazam anytime I hear a song that I think I may like.  I use spotify to create my own playlists so they can stream from my iphone.  Also on spotify- once you’ve started a list you can start your own radio station that is based on the songs in your playlist.  I listen to that so that I can find songs that I know I will like but maybe have never heard before.  I used to hear songs on the radio and write down the group and the title as soon as I would hear it and keep this massive list, crossing off songs as I go along.

To make my yoga play list I think about how I sequence my class- with that being said I almost  never write out pose by pose.  Actually- I never do that.  But that’s for another blog post.  So I basically envision my class- beginning/centering, vinyasa flow/standing poses, inversions, cooling down sequence.  Clearly I don’t want to play fast paced music that’s going to bring the energy up when we are moving towards savasana.  I typically don’t play music within the first 5-10 minutes which involves centering, breath work, and sometimes ab work.  I start with a slower paced song or two, build to up beat for about 40-50 minutes, and then move to slower paced and to really slow songs.  But more than anything- I pick songs that speak to me.  I play the songs that I love and they’re songs that I’d want to hear when I am practicing.

What songs speak to you? What artists, musicians, or bands do you love?

Here’s one that I love.

I hope you all had a great week and have a nice weekend ahead of you.

xoxo- C

Hiii my lovely readers.  We all know it’s been a minute- more like two weeks- since I’ve written something but well- I needed a little break.  I needed space.  We all know that feeling.

I’ve been doing a lot of thinking about life, career, goals, and all of that stuff recently and I saw this list posted on the mirror of a friends bathroom.  I just thought I’d share.

(source)

Something you can do to get yourself thinking is to draw and circle and inside of it write-what do I want?  Outside of it write all of the things that you don’t want. Give yourself 5-10 minutes and just write down what comes to mind.  You don’t have to put a lot of effort or thought into it.  Just an easy way to get your creative juices flowing and help you get closer to what it is that you really want.

Also- you can find me now on Spotify and check out my playlists.  I only have two on there currently because I have typically posted them on here.  But I have made them public and it’s FREE to download.  And of course if you have any other music recommendations I’d love them!

Don’t forget to find me on twitter and on Facebook!

I’m going to make this quick because it’s thundering and lightening outside and it is my bed time!

Dorry wrote on her blog the other day here about creating possibilities in your life and I thought that was an awesome topic to address!  There are countless possibilities in life but what I want to know ( as she asked her readers) is what are the possibilities that you are creating??

I told her that I wanted to be authentic in everything I do and that I really do LOVE my life and that I want to be present for every moment of it.  This means that I’ve gotten really good at catching myself making this mental lists over and over and continuously playing out in my head situations that will take place in the future.

So- what POSSIBILITIES are you creating???  Would SO Love to know and PLEASE check out Dorry’s blog.  Love her.

I’ve also mentioned one of my yogini’s Sarah here and here.  She has just ventured to Prague for the summer but she has shared some of her gorgeous art work with me.

Your work really begins when you release the struggle.  To let go of the struggle initiates a change of vibration within you.  This change puts you in touch with the flow of life itself, which is essentially what you are.  To cultivate awareness of this flow is your real work.  When you’re in touch with the flow of life and feel your heart and mind open, you’ll note that a certain presence starts to assert itself.  This presence changes your physical chemistry, your feelings, and your mind.  It is the spirit itself starting to inform you about yourself, about it, about life, and about God.  It’s a simple work.  ~Swami Chetananda

Relax and Renew

28 May

008 Hi Friends!  TGIF!  We have been experiencing the HHH over here in the city of charm.  Heat, humidity, and haze.  Despite the near 90’s temperatures, today was beautiful.

002

006

007

I am so glad that I have a four day weekend!  What about you?  It’s been a while since I’ve had that kind of time off and it definitely feels nice.  I will be spending some time with family, friends, eating yummy food and most likely having some vino.

I’ve been doing a lot of this in the past week :

001

DECAF iced coffee with soy Smile

Green smoothie- banana, strawberry, spinach, vanilla soy protein powder, scoop of Dark Chocolate Dreams

I thought that I’d give you some things to think about this weekend.

I realized that it’s almost June, so that means 2011 is HALF OVER! Can you believe it?

Take some time to reflect on the following:

What have you accomplished so far in 2011?

What are your goals for the rest of the year? Professional, personal, fitness etc.

Where can you create space? This can simply mean taking one evening a week to turn off the phone, computer, and tv or to physically clear out some clutter and donate a bag to the Goodwill

What are some lessons you have learned in the first half of 2011?

Create a journal page for all that you’re grateful for. Add pictures!

Make a list of people you’d still like to see, concerts you’d like to attend, places you’d like to visit, or something new you’d like to try.

Vow to show your creative side everyday.  This can simply  be done by wearing your favorite earrings or painting your nails in a new color.

How have you grown since 2010? What ways to you do you still hope to grown in the next 6 months of 2011?

Create your vision! This doesn’t have to be your master plan in life!  No one knows exactly  what they want to do or be for the rest of their life! That’s OK! But make a list; write it out!  Visualize how you would like to live your life everyday if you could.  Think about your top 10 passions, inspirations, and strengths.  What’s the common link between them?  Then picture your perfect life!

What time do you want to get up?  What do you want to wear to work? Do you want to live in the city? What does your house look like? Do you have pets? What do you eat? How do you spend your evening? How do you take care of yourself?  Really be clear about these images and just remember to be positive about them.  Say what you want out loud or create an actual vision statement and affirmation that you can easily remember and repeat. Set goals to make this life happen! As always, there will be changes and setbacks, but those are just things that will help you continue to thrive and grow and really get what you want. **Inspired by Kimberly Wilson and Hip Tranquil Chick.**

004Whatever you can do or dream, begin it.  Boldness has genius, power, and magic in it. ~Goethe

**Things to Ponder**

I really didn’t know what to write about in this post because I feel like I’ve been boring this week-  but that is something to talk about.  The art of doing nothing.  It wasn’t that I sat in my apartment all weekend, but the truth is, I was tired and I feel like it’s OK to stay in, not go out with friends and stay up late both nights of the weekend.  I think sometimes it’s easy to get caught up in the hustle and bustle of always running here and there and having a zillion things on our plates and when we realize that we need a break- it’s too late! Then we are run down, have a cold, and are just plain old tired.

Here are some things to think about for the week to help you slow down, breathe, and live your life in the moment!

  1. SIP your coffee or tea at home in a mug.  Not in your travel to go mug but at home before you rush out the door.
  2. Take a walk
  3. Turn off the TV, phone, computer
  4. Plant some flowers
  5. Do legs up the wall- for those of you that don’t know what that is- literally scoot your booty up to the wall and lay on your back with your legs up.  HEAVEN.
  6. Recite some mantra- Mantra is a saying kind of like a prayer that you repeat either silently or aloud over and over and over.  It can help you relax and focus as it’s a form of meditation. Mantras and their meanings vary throughout every spiritual and religious tradition. Here are some examples: Sat nam- Truth; Om mani padme hum- Enlightened body, mind, speech, active compassion; Om Namah Shivaya- I am purified by change, destroyer of illusion; Sat Nam- truth, Soham Hamso- That I am, I am that
  7. Do more yoga
  8. Make a to- do list so you can tackle tasks in an organized and efficient fashion.  Crossing them off when you’re finished feels great!
  9. Drink more water.
  10. Journal- Let your creative juices flow.  You don’t just have to write: cut and paste images from magazines for inspirations, write a poem, re-write your goals and organize your to-dos, write about your current lifestyle and if you’re happy with it, find ways you can challenge yourself or become more creative, and ask yourself we you can create space in your life.

Our intention creates our reality. ~Wayne Dyer

I’d love to hear what you like to do to help you be present and live a mindfully awake and alive life.  And if you realize you haven’t been- then you should start!!!!

I hope your weekend was fabulous and relaxing!!
