Good times

30 May picstitch (17)

Hiiii my friends- I hope you had a fantastic holiday weekend.  Mine was pretty calm and relaxing but it’s still nice to have a short week! My schedule has been jammed packed with a lot of work but I have still managed to have a good time.

picstitch (2)

I went to the O’s vs Red Sox game last week and it was a great time.  I hadn’t been to a game all season and I LOVE go to O’s games (even though sometimes we aren’t very good lol).  I think it’s all about the atmosphere…and the beer and food.

My friend let’s just call him big C sometimes gets tickets through his work and the seats were amazing!

picstitch (4)

I felt bad for these poor people in these outfits.  It was hot and I hope they were getting paid a lot.

picstitch (5)

It was definitely a great time.  A few of you asked about my jersey- I am pretty sure it’s a boys XL from Target.  Much cheaper and cuter than the other random ones that they say are made for women.

I went to Shepherdstown, West Virginia on Friday to take an acro yoga workshop with Vanessa King.  Vanessa was an awesome teacher and while I felt like there were challenging aspects to the class- it was totally available for all levels.  The class was held at Jala Yoga which my close friend Christa owns.  If you ever have to chance to go to Shepherdstown- you totally have to go. The studio is totally warm and everyone is super friendly and the town is really cute. Take a class from Christa and then check out Mellow Moods Juice Bar which is located underneath the studio.

(that’s me in the pink and Vanessa is in the backbend)

I also spent some time with my family this weekend at my uncles bbq and celebrated my granny’s birthday.

picstitch (8)

I pretty much broke all of my dietary restrictions at the cookout and am kicking myself about it now.

I also tried to teach my little cousin some yoga poses but the pictures didn’t come out so well.  It’s so funny because kids loooove to learn especially when you try to teach them something physical.  But I find it so interesting that little kids can’t quite balance.

picstitch (9)They’re super bendy, but they can’t stay still.  I kept yelling statue! He tried.  I guess it takes a while for some of those fine motor skills to be fully developed.  And note my hair getting progressively bigger in every picture.

Lastly I worked on my fire escape garden.  Wait till you see the pictures.  When I lived with my sis in Canton a few years ago, we actually lived in a house and I had lovely plants outside of out place.  Flowers and everything.  They looked great.  And then I moved to an apartment on a 4th floor walk up.

picstitch (7)

Yeah- weeds took over!  Look how bad they looked! I spent a little over an hour sweating, weeding, and listening to the Pandora summer oldies station- praying no one was watching me.

picstitch (14)

I don’t know if any of you garden (on your stoop, with pots, in a backyard etc) but I really love getting my hands dirty, planting something, and watching it grow.  I’ve been looking out my windows ever since impatiently waiting for things to grow.

picstitch (6)

Things are a bit more organized now as you can see.  I have a few flowers to plant that my mom bough for me.  But I planted 2 basil plants (gluten free pesto pizza yes please), cilantro, mint, parsley, and rosemary.  So good.  Last year I had a tomato as well as pepper plant but, sadly I don’t eat those anymore.

picstitch (16)The pic above is everything weeded and nicely planted.  Now just cross your fingers for perfect pesto, grilled veggies, and salmon!

I hope you all had a great weekend.  Mine was sealed off with a nice date night with Brad Pitt while having some of these.

I have to say- amidst the chaos, craziness, business, and fun- my life is good and I feel totally blessed and lucky to have to the life I have- even with all of it’s ups and downs (and this is probably because I know now how to handle the downs a little better than beforeWinking smile).

Back to the grind

071Hi friends! Things have been crazzzzyyyyy since coming back from vacation! Last week was the first time I had days off without teaching yoga in months.  Months! So you can imagine coming back and teaching 3 classes a day was- well a bit of a struggle!

This is me- freezing in the pouring rain with wet feet in Philly! Gah! I was grumpy despite my large smile!

The beach was amazing and I loved every second of it! I also turned 29!!!!!

So I have to share with you the VEGAN PIZZA that I made!

067

SO FREAKING GOOD!

066

Now I know you may be skeptical, but it was delicious!

Here’s what you need:

1 package of Bob’s Red Mill Gluten Free pizza dough (found at whole foods)

1 package of Follow Your Heart Vegan Mozzarella Cheese (also found at whole foods)

Your choice of tomato sauce

Pesto- I made my own with fresh basil leaves (rinsed), olive oil, garlic, dash of salt and pepper, and the veg mozz cheese listed above. Blend in a blender or food processor till everything is smooth

Other toppings of whatever you want! I used Tofurkey’s veggie Italian sausage, fresh tomatoes, and marinated artichoke hearts.

This is very simple and easy to make.  Follow the directions on the back of the dough mix.  To make it vegan, you have to use flax seed meal instead of eggs.

Once the dough is cooked- add your toppings and bake again according to the directions on the package.

The pizzas I made were pesto, sausage and mozzarella and the second one was with a roasted red pepper sauce, artichoke hearts, fresh tomatoes, sausage, and the cheese.  Like I said, ALL VEGAN and soooo good!

057

This was vegan too- and it wasn’t mine…but I had a few bites.  Lol

I’m hoping to post again tonight with another recipe and some inspiration.  But for now, back to the endless mound of laundry!

I hope you’re having a great week!!!

003To the beach that is!

Hi Friends! Are you so happy the weekend is here??? I am!

I am going to Lewes Delaware for a whole week with the family.  A lot of people have never heard of Lewes before, but it’s a lovely little town at the end of the row of beaches in Delaware.  The fam and I have been going there pretty much since Morgan and I came into existence.  And now it’s turned into an extended family vacation.

004 Here’s my driver!

Yesterday I indulged in a pedi with my girl Nurse Leicht.

002 001

I’d say I’m beach ready Smile

I cannot wait to just have  time to relax, unwind, and be in the salt water! I absolutely love the ocean and even though it will probably be packed with tons of families, we will be one of them!

We also all are bringing our yoga mats- Mace included- so we’ll all be rolling out our islands.  I haven’t actually done yoga in weeks because of my foot injuries but I’ve been wearing clunky sneakers for days now so I am hoping I can be pain free! I neeeeeeed my yoga!

So- we drove across the Bay Bride

005006007

and after getting slightly lost- we ended up having a family breakfast with my aunt and uncle.

013 Jimmy’s is a restaurant on the way to the eastern shore that has true home cooking.  I mean look at these pies- freshly made!

012009008

So if you look closely, my dad, my uncle and I- well, we look alike in the face!

011

I make my dad pose a lot.  Smile

And surprisingly-

010

Morgan wasn’t ready for her close up.  Shocking!

014

Back on the road!

And then we finally arrived!

Two year old lessons

13 Jun

009 Hi friends~ did you have a nice weekend? I got back from NY this evening and I am missing my weekend already.  I had one of those weekends where I didn’t really do anything but it was wonderful.  If you missed it- click here and here for my previous posts.  And just to clarify- I was in Red Hook near Rhinebeck- not in Brooklyn.  Smile

001

So if you’ve been staying updated- I was visiting my cousin and her husband and their two kiddies for the weekend.  It was pretty rainy and cloudy the whole time, but it was nice and cool and I got to play mother number 2.  Well kind of- as I didn’t change any diapers lol.  But I used to be a kindergarten teacher and I LOVE kids!

057

059

Look how young I was!

Anyways.  Kids are funny.  If you’ve spent all day with a 2 year old and an 8 month old- you will see what I mean.  They are bottomless pits, can read endless amounts of stories, and have bounding amounts of energy! What I find so intriguing about children is their ability to let go.  They can cry one second because you tell them to stop terrorizing their baby sister and then 5 minutes later- it’s look at my Woody the cowboy doll dancing! Seriously this happened!

As we get older, we hold grudges, stay forever stressed, want what other people have, and aren’t able to let go when really, we already have everything we need.  If we let go of those things that we think we need ( a better life, job, more money, get skinner, prettier, etc.) we could simply be happy.  It’s that easy.  But just like doing the physical yoga practice and some yoga poses take months of physical work to accomplish, letting go takes work.  You have to catch yourself having negative feelings of self doubt and unworthiness.  I only bring this up because having those feelings are habit forming and we all do it!

005006

007  See!  Look at little Jack!  He has his blue hat and his airplane!  He loves those things- even though he tried to sleep in his bed with the airplane and the pointy wings stabbed him a little in the stomach when he rolled over. Lol  But what happened?

007  This guy just came and moved it and everything was better!  Just like that.

I’ve been reading Judith Lasater’s book Living Your Yoga and it’s a great read so first off- I really recommend it.  She tells stories about her daily life and basically how you can live your yoga off of your yoga mat.  She told a story about looking at one of those puzzle/hologram pictures in a doctors office with her daughter- the ones where you have to look at it a weird way and then you see a hidden image hidden in the big picture.  Lasater said that her daughter could see all the images in the twenty page book and she just got more and more upset with herself because she couldn’t see any of them.  But then, finally, when she stopped judging and being upset with herself for not being able to see it- all of the hidden images jumped out at her.

I was struck with the power of what had happened.  This was a living teaching.  When I let go, I was able to see what had been there the whole time. ~ Judith Lasater

010

Same with little precious here- cry one second- BIG smile the next.  I love it!

In Lasater’s book- she also talks about attachment.  We thrive on focusing on the outcome of everything.  We always judge.  Is it good? Is it bad?  We can never just be.  We can never just accept things the way the are and be OK with them.  Why is that???  Obviously I can’t speak for everyone- but what Lasater explains later is true for me.  We have to let go of our attachment to the way we think things should be or how we think things should go.  The only thing that ever really changes is YOU.  Funny isn’t it?  That’s is exactly why you can learn things from children- or the little tinies as I call them.  Upset one second and happy the next.  They forget all about the took that’s broken or the second cookie they can’t have.

029

Yes, you can turn that frown upside down.  It’s all about simply being aware.

013004

So how can you be more aware this week?

I’ve kind of talked before about the fact that I used to go down the path of darkness and it took time and effort and energy to stop myself from having those feelings.  But in all honesty, it’s made a WOLRD of a difference!

See if you can just catch yourself when you start with the shoulds- I should be working out more, I should have this, I shouldn’t eat that, I should etc etc.  You know what I’m talking about.  Take 5 seconds and take 5 breaths and move on!  See what happens!

Do you have any goals this week?

I have a ton! But the key is to start slow and cross off those to do’s!

  1. Go to bed early-starting Monday.  Hehe
  2. Drink MORE water.
  3. Yoga 3x times this week
  4. 3 gym sessions
  5. Write one article and submit to 3 online web/magazines!

Those are just a few!

New York New York

11 Jun

001Hi friends! I arrived in NYC around 4 pm today and it felt great to be in the city!  I definitely am a city girl at heart!  I didn’t really stay there long- but enough to to breathe in some cab and hot dog fumes. Smile

 003002

Then I met up with my cousin Carrie and baby Lucy to go get this guy!

004 005

These aren’t the greatest pics but they are just soooo cute! Jack has gotten so big since I saw him last and he talks and talks and talks.  I love it!

We had a family dinner and then I sat sandwiched in between the car seats and off to Red Hook we went!

jack

Just for the record- Jack looks just like his father.  Lol

It was dark when we got here but they have a beautiful cabin in the  woods and have about 3 acres of land.  It’s quiet and serene and you can’t see the neighbors house! Wayyyy different than the city of charm.  Smile

This is going to be quick because I’m tired from a day of traveling- but something I plan on talking about is that my cousin and her family have pretty much all become VEGAN since her brush with colon cancer.  They are much more aware of what they eat and where it comes from.  They are not 100% vegan and if there’s something they want to eat, they don’t deny it from themselves.  However, they have made a mindfully aware and mostly plant based diet a party of their lifestyle.  A lot of people think becoming vegan is just a diet- but in my opinion that’s not true; it’s a lifestyle.

I’ve been snacking on these:

008

And they are to die for.  They say on the bag “ smokier than a dimly lit bar”- love it.

I ALSO wanted to let you know that the blog now have a Facebook page!!  CLICK HERE to LIKE it and please pass on to your friends!  I hope you all are having a fantastic and hopefully cooler start to the weekend!!

005Hi Friends-

I hope you guys all had a great holiday weekend! I had four days off and it was amazing, but I am def looking forward to getting into the swing of things.  I had a good time with family and friends, I went running (!!), and I indulged in some goodies.

001002

I spent the day in DC today in the HEAT! l I felt like I was frying into an egg on the sidewalk, but who doesn’t love day trips!?

016

The National Portrait Gallery has a lot of interesting work and best of all- it’s FREE Smile  These were just a few pics that I snapped because I wasn’t really sure if I was supposed to be taking pictures in the first place.

To be honest this was the first weekend in a while where I wasn’t dashing off to here and there with a million plans.  It felt nice to just be in the moment and decided where the day and night was going to take me.

How did you spend your long weekend?

As you know I went to the herb festival, celebrated my  grandmother’s bday, went to DC, and indulged in some yummy food and drinks.  Green smoothie tomorrow for sure.

Was there anything beautiful that caught your eye over the weekend?

All the families together! Even though we all know that family time can sometimes be- overwhelming Smile- I just think it’s nice to see that people actually take the time to be with each other when they have one day off!  My mom and I had a lot of bonding time.  Winking smile

I hope you guys had a great Monday and that your week is off to a fantastic start!  Stay cool! Hydrate!!  Add lemon or an orange slice to your water and make a green smoothie if you ate too many goodies over the weekend.

xoxo, C
