The awesome road

7 Feb

OK- you’ve probably seen this video.  But watch it again and then read below.

First off- I don’t exactly know who this little precious child is but he is adorable and I just want to squeeze his cheeks!

baltimoreOne of my students told me to watch this video because I’ve been a little down lately.  Too many people I love and care about are dealing with cancer.  My heart feels broken even though I’m happy in my personal and work life.  It just makes me sad and there’s not a lot to do aside from be positive and be there.  As the kid president says- life is a game and we are on the same team.  Every day I teach yoga classes and try my best to encourage people to live a vibrant life and a huge part of making that happen is just being there.  And that’s what I vow to do for the people I love who are hurting right now.  Just showing my love and support.

The Road Not Taken

Two roads diverged in a yellow wood,
And sorry I could not travel both
And be one traveler, long I stood
bharAnd looked down one as far as I could
To where it bent in the undergrowth;
Then took the other, as just as fair,
And having perhaps the better claim
Because it was grassy and wanted wear,
Though as for that the passing there
Had worn them really about the same,
And both that morning equally lay
In leaves no step had trodden black.
Oh, I marked the first for another day!
Yet knowing how way leads on to way
I doubted if I should ever come back.
I shall be telling this with a sigh
Somewhere ages and ages hence:
Two roads diverged in a wood, and I,
I took the one less traveled by,
And that has made all the difference.

~Robert Frost

The road less traveled is the one that leads to awesome.  Time doesn’t stop when life is hard and has it challenges.  You have to keep going because you are the only one who can create whatever it is that you really want. So how can you create something that will be amazing?  Everyone’s answer is different but whatever it is, you can do it with love and courage.  Because like the kid president say- you were made to be awesome

Life is short, sweet, bitter, and incredible.  It’s not about putting yourself into a box that’s some vision on how you think you should live your life.  It’s just about being, believing, composing, dreaming, and going and going.

Who encourages you?

These people encourage me

Weekend to do’s

1 Jun ganesh

picstitch (25)Hi my loves- TGIF!  I hope you have had a great week and have a beautiful weekend ahead of you.  It’s currently thunder storming but the rest of the weekend is supposed to be gorgeous and not too hot!  My fire escape garden is really looking good already and I am hoping to get in time to plant some flowers.  What are your plans?

Here’s another recipe for you.  You must make this soup!!

Summer cucumber watermelon gazpacho

picstitch (23)

Super east to make and all you to is have to blend it up or use the food processor.

picstitch (22)

This picture is actually missing one of the ingredients (and I didn’t use any olive oil- but you could use a drizzle).

1 and 3/4 cucumber (peeled and seeds removed)

Small (on the larger side) piece of watermelon.  You could use a bigger piece if you want it to be sweeter

Onion and garlic to taste

Cilantro (this isn’t pictured) and I used a good amount because I love the flavor.

Blend away and refrigerate so it’s extra cold!

As you can see this makes about two of those bowls pictured above so you can always freeze the extra…or slurp it down the next day like I did.  I actually went to the store to get another piece of watermelon to make more tonight.  You can also add tomatoes or peppers as well.  Let me know if you make it!  It would be great for a summer party and you can serve in little bowls as an appetizer for everyone to get a taste.

It’s beautifully done. Please click on the stars below the blurb to vote! I couldn’t get the video to come up but click here to see it.

Real Girls

7 Jan

Hi hi hi- tgif is all I have to say!  I have a busy weekend of working with the teacher trainers at Charm City Yoga this weekend so I am going to keep this short and sweet with a few bit of inspiration to lead you on your weekend.

Since it is the start of the new year and we all need motivation to help achieve what we want out of life- watch this video.  Immediately.

I know it’s a little long but you will thank me.  I saw this on a friends Facebook page so I decided to see what it was.

This video is one of many from TED.  TED is a non profit developed in 1984 which originally started as a conference bringing technology, entertainment, and design together.

From their website:

Our mission: Spreading ideas.
We believe passionately in the power of ideas to change attitudes, lives and ultimately, the world. So we’re building here a clearinghouse that offers free knowledge and inspiration from the world’s most inspired thinkers, and also a community of curious souls to engage with ideas and each other.

Clearly this video fits that exact description.  What I got from this video is that basically- we all have dreams, goals, and aspirations in life.  But by nature, we are lazy and stubborn and set in our ways.  Don’t say you’re never like that- because we all have our moments.  We have to dig deep down inside and find our activation energy.  The energy that prevents you from sleeping all day long so you can get up and go to work so you can pay your bills.  You have to make yourself do it- every damn day.

We like our routines and it’s so easy to get set in them.  In order to- for example- be able to hold a handstand- you have to make yourself do the work to make it happen.  So doing it every day, doing your chaturanga push ups, holding your plank pose, and strengthening your stomach every day.  Or else there’s no way you will be able make it up there.

So take these words of advice from the video:

  • Force yourself to get out of your head
  • Get past your feelings (because you’re never going to feel like going the extra mile to get what you want)
  • Get out of your comfort zone

And take advantage of the 5 second rule- act on your impulses because after 5 second your brain is going to take over and tell you otherwise!

What a way to start the weekend right???

Here are some other pictures that the lovely Sarah took of me for the Lululemon product notification.

This photo- bottom in the white- made it onto a very popular blog called LuluAddict.  The comments made me laugh because I don’t think the one in white is the best one of me.  If you  don’t happen to read them- there were just a lot of positive comments about seeing real bodies (I was known as the busty lady! lol) in the photos and that the average woman has curves.  Real girls have curves I tell you.  Winking smile

And don’t forget to follow me on Facebook and twitter!  And subscribe to the blog of course. And if you are in Baltimore- I would LOVE for you to come to my HIP HOP YOGA class at Charm City Yoga.  Click here for the details.

Goals.  There’s no telling what you can do when you get inspired by them. There’s no telling what you can do when you believe in them. There’s no telling what will happen when you act upon them.  ~Jim Rohn

I hope you all have a fantastic weekend!

Blown up

30 Nov

002I think my blog blew up today.  I had so many readers! Over 300 views today! Yay!!  Thank you so much for taking the time to read, look a my pics, and just look at my site.  It really makes me happy.  I am so glad that you all liked reading about Ricky Williams

I hope you had a nice Tuesday despite the down pours of rain at times (if you were anywhere near Baltimore).  My day was pretty uneventful- did the laundry, saw my granny, taught the yoga.  Typical day.  Smile

001

I made this amazing smoothie today.  I tried to recreate it from one I tasted from Zia’s and it’s sooo good.  1 cup of almond milk, 1 scoop of vanilla protein powder, 2 dates(without the pits) and a huge heaping scoop of peanut butter…that’s probably not the healthiest but I had it in between teaching classes and it was amazing.

So I want you to watch this video and listen to the speakers- and then read below.

My mom sent me this- thanks mom!

If you didn’t watch it- you won’t know what I am talking about!

So in essence this video talks about gratitude and since it’s the holidays I only think it’s appropriate to talk about this.

The older gentleman in the video tells us that we are all connected in nature and in life.  One plant, animal, species, all depends on the actions of the bigger whole.  We are all connected to each other and we all are on our own path in life- the path to find the connection to another person, our family, god, and whatever it is that we want out of life.

(source)

Even though we all know we should treat every day like it’s our last- we really just go through the motions of our every day routines.  We get up, get dressed, pour our coffee in our to go cups and out the door we go! I loved hearing about using our eyes to see things like we have never seen before and to treat every day as an important and unique moment in our life.  Each day is a gift to us and we should be grateful that we are lucky enough to see, feel, and experience another day on this planet.  Do you think you can do that everyday? Wake up and treat each morning like something that is new, exciting, and unfamiliar?  Because really in essence, we will never ever experience the same thing twice.

(source)

In order to live life to the fullest, we have to live with an open heart.  That means being open and accepting to everything that comes your way- good and bad.  That’s hard.

You have to ask yourself if you really are open to love.  And I don’t mean love with another person.  I’m talking about love with yourself.  We all want comfort and steadiness yet we sometimes (more often than not) tend to feel like something is missing.  Why do we do that?  Why does something have to be missing? The truth is, we can’t cant be afraid.  The love that we want is always inside of ourselves.  We all have it.  And when you realize that, you then know that there isn’t anything is missing and you can go through life with open eyes while being open to love and all kinds experiences.  It’s tricky- I know.  Believe me as these are the words from a single girl.  Smile

All in all- I hope you take the time each day to let yourself simply enjoy your life.  Because when you’re grateful- life is good

Let your heart open- gently, safely, surely, and certainly…you have learned that you are a loving being.  You know now that your love comes from within you.  It is safe to open your heart.  The universe awaits ready, willing, delighted to be able to help you open, the same way it aides the opening of a flower with the sun, the rain, the earth.  To deny your power and ability to love is to deny joy.  To deny your loving essence is to deny yourself…and the Diving in you.

Look around.  It’s not your location that makes you safe.  It’s where you are in your soul, your mind, and your heart.  That place is good.  That place is safe.  Open your heart.  Embrace life.  Go joyfully on your way.  ~Melody Beattie

Now it’s time for me to face plant into bed! G’night!

Party in my mouth

26 May

003and I’m not talking about pop rocks.  But more on that in a minute.

Did you go to your island today??  I did.

004005

And look who decided to join!

So cute.  Enough of the cat!

I hope you had time to take a breather today, but regardless, the holiday weekend is almost here!  Do you guys have fun plans?

One my dedicated yoginis, Michelle, is graduating from college tomorrow and will be moving back to Connecticut!!  Congrats Michelle!!! I will miss you!!

009

On to the party.  You HAVE to make this.  I recreated Trader Joe’s cilantro jalapeño hummus.

023

Just as a side note- my photography is, well, not that good!

I’m not going to lie, I eye ball a lot of the measurements.  Just an fyi!

Ingredients:

1 can organic garbanzo beans- drained and rinsed

Juice of 1/2 lemon

1 bunch of fresh cilantro

1 small jalapeño- slice and remove seeds

1 tbs tahini

Olive oil to your liking of creaminess

Sea salt to taste

To make, combine all ingredients in high speed blender or food processor.  Blend until smooth.  Now, use all the beans and def use the juice of 1 lemon.  I added probably 2 dashes of olive oil and maybe a tad more tahini than 1 tbs to make it smoother. You can omit the tahini all together- you don’t have to have it to make hummus. Also, depending on your liking for spiciness and zest, you can use less or more cilantro and jalapeño.  If you’re not sure- start with SMALLER amounts!  You don’t want to waste it if you don’t like it.  I would just mix it up, taste, mix again, taste again.

Once it’s finished- OH MY GOD- Heaven in your mouth!  I promise!

028029

OK- low and behold!! I think the video works!!  Check it out!!  I can hopefully make another one this weekend!!

Have a great day!!!
